Hervé de Kergrohen, M.D.
Hervé de Kergrohen is the CEO of SMI (Swiss Medical International) and the Founder of the BioData Forum. A Medical Doctor with an MBA, he focused his career on the link between Medicine and Business. The Health Care Market is one of the largest and fastest-growing segment of the world economy. Dr Hervé de Kergrohen is a global strategist with a unique perspective on all aspects of the rapidly changing health environment.
In the 1980's he worked as a Head and Neck surgeon in France. In 1991, he took the MBA from Insead, one of the most famous Business Schools in the world, constantly ranked among the top 10 MBAs with a campus in France and one in Singapore.
In the 1990's, he worked in the USA during the Health Care Reform that completely reshaped the Health Care System in America. He was in charge of following the rapidly changing Hospital Care and Insurance System of America as a Director with large US pharmaceutical Corporations (Sandoz USA, New Jersey and GD Searle, Illinois). Dr Hervé de Kergrohen witnessed how reimbursement for drugs in the United States led to the incredible growth in the world biopharmaceutical market. This growth was further boosted by the impact of biotechnology and genomics. It facilitated the advances in Medical Technology with huge discoveries in Medical Imaging, Robotics an Minimally-Invasive Cardiology. Hervé de Kergrohen became a renowned speaker in large Health Care Conferences across the USA.
In the late 1990's and 2000's, Dr Hervé de Kergrohen decided to employ his knowledge to guide investments in European Health Care. He joined the largest pure Health Investor in Europe, Bellevue Asset Management in Switzerland, manager of BB Biotech. He co-founded the Public Equity Fund BB Medtech, raised 300 million dollars and started to invest in large Corporations involved in the US Health Care Reform. These companies were Health Insurance players, HMOS, Hospital Chains, Physician Practice Management Consolidators and large Medical Device Companies. He attained maximum performance for all his time with the Fund. He then joined the largest Bank in Switzerland, UBS. He acted as the Head Strategist for all the Health investments of UBS Asset Management, the manager of 1 trillion dollars. He managed an international team of 20 analysts.
In 2002, Dr Hervé de Kergrohen founded the Biodata Forum in Geneva, Switzerland, a yearly International Conference in Switzerland. It gathered the most innovative health companies to meet with the largest worldwide investors. Since 2002, Biodata has hosted hundreds of companies searching financing for their innovative projects. Around 50 of these companies accessed the Stock Market through IPOs. Some of these companies are today large market capitalisations on Euronext or the Nasdaq. Biodata was supported by political officials such as the President of the Geneva State and the President of the French National Assembly. The largest US and European Banks sponsored and co-organised the events.
From 2003 to 2009, Dr Hervé de Kergrohen collaborated with CDC Innovation, the Venture Arm of Caisse des Dépôts and Consignations, the largest asset manager of France, to direct their investments toward promising and very innovative medical startups. CDC Innovation managed 500 million dollars. Many small startups grew and undertook IPOs.
Dr Hervé de Kergrohen was asked to take direct responsibilities in some of the medical companies as Board Member or Manager on behalf of their international investors.
In 2010, Dr Hervé de Kergrohen decided to apply his knowledge to Asia and to focus SMI on the Chinese Market.
SMI (Swiss Medical International) offers Financial and Health Management Services. SMI contracts with a large network of Hospitals and Medical Experts to offer superior medical services to the high-end segment of Asian Patients. SMI provides European Private Doctors to affluent and demanding Chinese Clients. Dr Hervé de Kergrohen's medical expert team has also created not-for-profit entities to actively link Asian and European Doctors such as the Global Doctor Association and the European Private Doctor Association.
